In “Whispering” we get a picture of a
world – nature, domestic spaces, relationships – all broken. In this
fallen world, what is still ringing?
The ringing continues, with it its saming, insisting tone. What changes are similar whispers.
“Murmurings” is full of digressions,
encouraging us to look away from the immediate force of disaster. These
two modes make us wonder about the last line: What is the speaker “not
well prepared to continue”? Looking at disaster, or looking away?
“This” leads to is this
, whatever this
is. What is not a way looking at disaster.
